Deltaport Third Berth (DP3) Container Terminal Expansion Project – Marine Impact Assessment

2003 - 2004

January 01, 1900 British Columbia

As a member of a marine studies team, Archipelago was invloved in the marine impact assessment for the Deltaport Third Berth Expansion (DP3) at Roberts Bank. Archipelago participated in the development of environmental assessment criteria and designed and completed subtidal and rocky intertidal marine habitat surveys. The objective of these surveys was to confirm the boundaries of important lower intertidal features, such as the lower limit of eelgrass beds, and to delineate and map deeper, subtidal substrate, macroflora and macrofauna features. The survey information was utilized to conduct the environmental assessment and design rocky subtidal reef habitat compensation.

    Key Features:
  • Macroinvertebrate and rocky reef fish community surveys
  • Lingcod egg mass survey
  • Rocky intertidal biophysical characterization
  • Geo-referenced towed video (SIMS) and dive subtidal habitat surveys
  • Impact assessment and identification of mitigation measures
  • Rocky reef habitat compensation design input
