Hard Seabed Video Monitoring Protocol Development

2004 - Current

January 01, 1900 British Columbia

With funding from the British Columbia Aquaculture Research and Development Committee, Archipelago began an evaluation of existing video and non-video monitoring techniques used to monitor benthic impacts from finfish aquaculture waste on hard substrate seabed environments. This study identified video monitoring as the preferred tool for operational monitoring of hard seabed aquaculture sites, and subsequent research has focused on developing systematic survey and video classification protocols for hard seabed sites.

    Key Features:
  • Characterize potential organic waste deposition impacts
  • Evaluate non-video and video monitoring techniques
  • Identify hard substrate seabed monitoring parameters
  • Develop and test standard video survey field protocols
  • Identify standard data interpretation and classification
