2010 Groundfish Hook and Line Catch Monitoring Program

Archipelago is pleased to announce that the 2010/2011 Groundfish Hook and Line Catch Monitoring Program will open Feb. 21, 2010 and that DFO is continuing to provide a cost sharing contribution of $700,000 towards Groundfish EM costs in 2010. The impacts of the cost sharing by DFO are significant and include a reduction in the hourly rate charged for EM services and a reduction in the amount of the Administration Fee.

We are also happy to announce that after a competitive bidding process the CIC has chosen Archipelago to continue to provide both DMP and EM services to the Groundfish Hook and Line and Trap fishery. The new program year will begin February 21 for all participants. All trips commencing after February 20 are subject to the new rates. All participants are required to register for the coming year.

The CIC has elected to continue collecting program costs using the same fee recovery model used in previous years. Our 2010 rates have been developed in conjunction with representatives of the CIC and have incorporated the cost sharing funds from DFO. Please contact any of our offices to get a copy of the new Fee Summary.

We look forward to working with the fleet again this year and anticipate continued refinement of the program. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or any of our Program Management staff, with questions or concerns.

Greg Clapp,
Coordinator, Groundfish Hook and Line Monitoring Programs
