Fisheries Management Services
Electronic Monitoring
Archipelago is the industry leader in electronic monitoring products and services for commercial fisheries worldwide. Based on more than 30 years experience in training and managing certified onboard observers, Archipelago understands the challenges facing today s fishing industry, and knows how to design and deliver an environmentally sound solution that s right for fisheries and industry regulators alike.
At-Sea Observers
As Western Canada’s largest and longest running observer-services company, Archipelago has trained and provided certified fisheries observers for domestic and international vessels since 1985. At-sea observers enable commercial fisheries to monitor compliance with regulations, while supporting in-season management, stock assessment, and scientific research initiatives.
Dockside Monitoring
Independent verification of landed catch is key to the sustainability of commercial fisheries. Since 1989, Archipelago has helped fisheries regulators to establish management standards, while providing trained and certified dockside observers to assist with data collection, validation, and the integration of new technologies.
Environmental Services
Coastal Planning & Design
Integrated planning and design services that support sustainable coastal development across a range of environmental and regulatory contexts. This service combines environmental analysis, spatial planning, and stakeholder considerations to inform projects that respond to site-specific ecological conditions, regulatory frameworks, and long-term coastal resilience, supporting responsible use and management of coastal areas.
Habitat Assessments
Archipelago conducts habitat assessment services based on sound biophysical and fisheries resource inventory information. To assist with surveys and research, Archipelago has developed a range of innovative tools (including standard classification methods for nearshore inventory) that have proven invaluable in numerous environmental assessment and planning applications for nearshore and offshore development projects.
Environmental Monitoring
As part of a sustainable development strategy, Archipelago can monitor the marine environment before, during, and after construction activities to help minimize disruption to marine habitats and species. Archipelago also offers long-term marine monitoring services to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation and compensation strategies, measure environmental change, and assess ecosystem health.
Scientific Diving
Archipelago has delivered scientific dive programs since the 1980s across British Columbia, the rest of Canada, and international waters. Each project is staffed using vessel types and diver specialists selected to match specific environmental and operational requirements. The dive team is science focused and includes CEP biologists, with additional support from subcontracted professional divers when required. Typical Archipelago-led programs include jet-probing, sediment coring and sampling, and surface-supply dive biophysical surveys in locations where SCUBA access is not feasible.
