Archipelago Wins Innovative Excellence Award at 2026 VIATEC Awards for FishVue AI

Archipelago received the Innovative Excellence award for Software or Service at the 2026 VIATEC Awards. The recognition was for FishVue AI, and we think the timing says something about where fisheries monitoring is heading.

Electronic monitoring has been around for decades, and Archipelago has sat at the center of it since the late 1990s. But the economics of EM data review have always created a bottleneck. Long trips, multiple cameras, and hours of footage that a human reviewer has to work through frame by frame. That cost structure limits which fisheries can afford monitoring in the first place.

We built FishVue AI to change that. The platform runs object-detection models across up to ten simultaneous camera feeds and flags moments of interest. It then delivers those detections into FishVue Interpret, where reviewers validate results and complete their reporting. Multiple AI tools can process the same dataset in sequence through a single pipeline. AQUA, our built-in training tool, uses human-validated corrections to improve model accuracy over time. The result is faster review, lower costs, and a realistic path toward making EM accessible to fisheries that the price of manual review has historically kept out of reach.

We believe AI-assisted review is the future of this industry. Not a replacement for skilled reviewers, but the tool that makes their expertise scalable.

Our development team built this from the ground up. They continue to refine it against real-world program demands spanning 30+ countries. This award reflects their work.
