Dockside Validator

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to support the delivery of our groundfish dockside monitoring programs in Prince Rupert, BC. No fisheries experience required.

This role involves assisting with land-based monitoring activities associated with commercial fisheries. Hours of work may vary and can include early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on vessel schedules.

All required training and certifications will be provided and fully paid.

 

You will be trained to:

  • Monitor and document the offload activities of various commercial fishing vessels.
  • Identify all species landed.
  • Accurately record offloaded weights into electronic data systems and on paper.
  • Monitor compliance with fishery regulations.
  • Perform biological sampling of selected species.
  • Assist at offloads with piece counting and halibut tagging.

 

You will need:

  • Valid BC Driver’s License (or equivalent to) and a reliable vehicle to get yourself to work.
  • The job is physically demanding, and candidates should be capable of lifting heavy equipment (<50 pounds) and climb ladders up to 25 feet on fishing vessels.
  • To complete this training, you will become dockside certified through Archipelago and need to be able to complete a criminal record check.

Starting wage is $20.81 per hour, plus an additional 8.2% paid out on each pay cheque in lieu of paid holidays and statutory pay ($22.52 per hour equivalent). Minimum 4-hour callout on all days worked. Benefits after the probationary period include a Health Spending Account and an Employee and Family Assistance Program.
