Mary Morris
Mary is a senior coastal ecologist with Archipelago and has over 30 years of experience working on all types of coastal marine datasets. Mary pioneered the biological mapping aspects of the first ShoreZone and she has since worked on dozens of projects to classify coastlines including most of the BC coast, Washington state, Oregon and Alaska north to the Arctic coast, and she has been responsible for coastal habitat classification of almost 100,000 kms of coast in the Pacific Northwest.
As well as collecting low tide imagery on aerial surveys, these projects also included leading on-the-ground shore station inventory and field verification for ShoreZone features, designing the database system, and supervising classification and mapping coastal features from imagery.
Other project experience has included: development of the intertidal inventory and rating for Greater Victoria’s Harbours Ecological Inventory and Rating Program (including intertidal and nearshore subtidal), multi- variant analysis of infaunal and nearshore fish samples for habitat monitoring, long-term monitoring of salt marsh wetland restoration in the Delkatla Wildlife Sanctuary in Masset, BC, and many other nearshore habitat assessments.
